In June of 1987 Betty
Haag-Kuhnke, founder and director of the Betty Haag Academy of Music
presented her students at the Vatican before Pope John Paul II and
200,000 people.
June 15th
Mrs. Haag and 40 children will return to Italy to perform for the new Pope,
Pope Benedict XVI at a special Vatican Mass June 18th.
The Magical Strings of
Youth is the performing group of the Academy. They have traveled the globe
to international acclaim, and appeared widely on national television to
astonish audiences with their virtuosity.
These goodwill
ambassadors have traveled to Korea under the auspices of UNICEF, with
proceeds from their concert benefiting the children of Ethiopia and
Bangladesh. They have been honored by dignitaries all over the world
including the late Princess Margaret of the British Royal Family, Pope John
Paul II at the Vatican, Boris Yeltsin in Russia, President Lee of Taiwan and
President Nasurbaev of Kazakhstan who remarked, �Politicians come and go
from our country, but no one has made a more lasting impression than these
young violinists�.
In this country Mrs.
Haag�s students have displayed their talents at the Kennedy Center, Lincoln
Center, Carnegie Hall, and two appearances in the East Room of the White
House as well as performances with the Chicago Symphony.
